Contains two voyages: on the ship LION of Providence, Aug. 28, 1845 - Oct. 4, 1845, master Charles F. Howland, kept by Charles F. Howland (Sherman 473, Starbuck 428); and on the ship DANIEL WOOD of New Bedford, Dec. 21, 1852 - May 22, 1856, master Joseph R. Tallman, kept by Henry A. Howland (Sherman 220, Starbuck 492). Journal of the LION contains sketches of vessels, profile view. Another journal, also on LION, covering Aug. 28-Oct. 16, 1845 appears to be in same hand (Sherman 472). Journal of the DANIEL WOOD contains songs, poetry, sayings. At end: entries on unknown vessel for eleven days, not dated; single entry on unknown vessel, dated July 4, 1864.
