Contains two voyages: on the bark MABEL of New Bedford, Sept. 18, 1877 - May 29, 1881, master John Horan (Sherman 486, Hegarty 5); and on the bark OHIO 2D of New Bedford, Dec. 13, 1881 - Apr. 3, 1882, master John Horan (Sherman 622, Hegarty 11). Contains sketches of vessels, sketches of whales, whale stamps, decorative sketches. Also includes sketches of the continent of South America, "scale of feet," many pages of algebraic and arithmetic calculations, sketch of what may be a figurehead. At end: oil stowed, bounty paid for raising whales and captain's expenses and lay while on the MABEL.
