Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Series 2 contains administrative records that trace UPP Arts’ organic development from an artistic project into a nonprofit organization that represented a network of artists, residents, environmentalists, and scholars. Subseries 1 contains meeting agendas and minutes; financial records and fundraising appeals; reflections by Ewald and teaching artists on the year’s activities; and materials from the UPP Arts board, which include discussions of the organization’s values and the development of its 2016 mission statement. Subseries 2 collects materials from grants that funded various UPP Arts projects. Most files contain completed applications and final grant reports, though some unfunded and unsubmitted proposals are also present. Of particular note are the materials from the Organizational Development Grant received from the Rhode Island Foundation in 2012. This grant allowed UPP Arts to work with consultant to develop a strategic plan; files from this award include fundraising case statements and discussions of the organization’s identity and goals. While notes and other writings by Holly Ewald appear throughout the collection, Subseries 3 collects some of her personal files, as well as an oral history of Ewald conducted by Anne Valk.
