Scope and Contents

The collection includes the papers and correspondence of Jencks with various notable Catholics as well as political and literary figures of the 20th century. The bulk of the materials are related to Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich (1923-1990), the Archbishop of Armagh and later Primate of all Ireland, and describe his work as a political activist for Northern Ireland.

Biographical / Historical

Barbara C. Jencks (1927 -1997) was an educator, journalist, author and editor with a passion for Irish culture and politics. She was born to Henry A. and Claire Jencks of Pawtucket, R.I. She wrote the longest-running opinion column in the American Catholic press in the Providence Visitor from 1948-1988.
