Scope and Contents

The collection consists of printed materials collected in Rhode Island between 2020 and 2022 related to mask wearing and vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic. Most materials are bilingual in English and Spanish, and intended for distribution as postcards or pamphlets. These materials were mostly created by the Rhode Island Department of Health, and some by the national Centers for Disease Control and Protection. There is an issue of Motif Magazine, a local Rhode Island arts and culture magazine, focusing on a retrospective of arts and culture work in Rhode Island during the first year of the pandemic.

Biographical / Historical

The COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic in Rhode Island began in March 2020. A series of stay-at-home orders, mask-wearing mandates, and the suspension of schools, public facilities, and businesses within Rhode Island followed the virus’ outbreak across the United States.
