Updike and Merrymount Ephemera Scrapbooks
Scope and Contents
Twenty of the volumes in this collection were assembled by Daniel Berkeley Updike. Originally the set comprised 21 volumes, but volume 4 has been missing, perhaps prior to the collection's arrival at the library. Each volume is similarly bound and numbered. The scrapbook volumes included primarily printed ephemera, with occasional manuscript items. Many volumes include ephemeral type specimens.
Two volumes have the spine title "Book of Designs" and include numbered illustrations presumably used as cuts by the Merrymount Press. A penciled flyleaf note indicates that they were purchased from Goodspeed in February of 1958. They were formerly cataloged as "Pq 655.244 M571".
The final volume does not appear to have been part of either set.
