Scope and Contents
Text of typed Index pasted into verso of front flyleaf:
- Gazette Nationale. Jan. 4, 1793. Second year of the Republic. This newspaper which was printed by the government contains a record of the acts of the National Convention and the Defence of Louis XVI. It is interesting typographically because it is supposed to beve been printed from the characters of Baskerville which were purchased by Beaumarchais for his edition of the works of Voltaire. (The gift of Ralph Straus, author of the Life of Baskerville)
- Broadside - L'Imprimerie aux Curieux. At the bottom of the page it bears the inscription "printed by J. R. Noe upon a press 3 ft. high and 16" wide, of which all the joinery and mechanism were made by him." (Renouard Col.).
- Copy for a poster. In which 10,000 francs is offered to prove that of the 60,000 copies issued as being stereotyped by Didot, only one has been stereotyped. At the bottom there is this note of Renouard's: "This affiche which never went further than the project, because I would not permit it to be printed, is from the Prussian Count Slabrendorf, and is written in his hand." (Renouard Col.) (A letter written to Herhan by Slabrendorf about his stereotyped Sallust is among the autographs belonging to the press.)
- Alphabet of ornamental initials in different styles. These initials were the property of Jules Renouard and Co. who apparently sold electrotypes of them. (Renouard Col.). Advertisement of Papeterie ['Essonne. This, If I am not mistaken, was a paper mill in which the Didots were interested. (Renouard Collection)
- Advertisement of Papeterie D'Essonne. This, If I am not mistaken, was a paper mill in which the Didots were interested. (Renouard Collection)
- Poster on vellum for the "Fables of La Fontaine" published by Renouard. Printed by P. Didot, l'aine. In Renouard's catalogue this is described as being a grande feuille image and Renouard adds that he thinks it the first advertisement in which anyone had the idea of introducing pictures from the book which it announced. (Renouard Collection) [lacking]
- Paper with the arms and address of Joseph de Capelletti, a Spaniard, probably printed by Bodoni or Ybarra. (Renouard Collection)
- Broadside "All'Amabilissima Da Anna Grillo di Soragna" etc. followed by a poem. Printed by Bodoni 1808. (Renouard Col.)
- Memorial Inscription to Antonio Bertioli. Printed by Bodoni. (Renouard Collection)

- A Specimen of Javaansche characters (Renouard)
- "Stereotype of Petin". Poster printed from a stereotype. (Renouard)
- Chart for weaving inscriptions on silk with a specimen of the silk so woven. The chart has on its margin "A Paris chez Crepy rue S. Jacques a S. Pierre pres la rue de la parcheminerie" (Renouara)

- A Specimen page of Plutarch printed by Adolph Rusch, the R printer, at Strassburg about 1463. This was the first Roman type ever cast [lacking]
- Specimen page of early Roman type [lacking]
