Biographical / Historical
According to the donor and based on family tradition, Charles E. Brown was a cabin boy, possibly enslaved, aboard the Plover, where he met Henry Harris and John Brown, who may have aided him in achieving his freedom.
The letter is dated August 27th, 1873 in Talcahuano, Chile and is accompanied by an envelope address to H.H. Brown in Providence.
