Scope and Contents
The collection consists of one photograph album of black and white snapshots of summer recreation destinations in Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey. Locations in Rhode Island include Providence, Pawtuxet Village, Bristol, Rocky Point, Newport, Narragansett, and Block Island. Other photographs depict southern Massachusetts, New York City, Luna Park, Coney Island, Asbury Park, and New London. Images showcase amusement parks, beaches, steamships and other tourism destinations.

Biographical / Historical
James Waring Roberts (1870-1955) was born in New York to James Hildreth and Julia Roberts. He married Mary E. Scanlon of Providence, Rhode Island in 1908. He worked as the manager of confectioner J. Fred Gibson Company in Providence, Rhode Island from the 1910s-1927 before moving to Toledo, Ohio where they lived with their daughters until his death.
