The volume set of printed portraits of booksellers and printers was created by an unknown collector. It represents portraits of individuals involved in the book trade in the 17th and 18th centuries. Most of the portraits are plate that appear to have been cut from published works, however, most of the original publications are not identified.
The set was purchased by PPL and added to the existing Daniel Berkeley Updike Collection on the History of Printing. Daniel Berkeley Updike (1860-1941) was a scholar of typography, American printer and founder of the Merrymount Press.
