Scope and Contents

This photograph album includes black and white prints documenting the Texaco Oil terminal in Providence, Rhode Island. The bulk of the images show the impact of the Hurricane of 1938 over the duration of the storm as well as the damage afterwards. Also included are images of the buildings and facility including construction of oil storage tanks.

Biographical / Historical

Originally called "The Texas Company", Texaco started in 1902 in Beaumont, Texas. It opened a terminal along Providence's Allens Avenue in the early 20th century. Many images in the album document the flooding and damage done to the terminal during the Hurricane of 1938 which caused huge amounts of property damage and a large number of deaths to residents across Rhode Island.
