Biographical / Historical
The Rhode Island Development Council was created in 1951 as a successor to the Rhode Island Port and Industrial Development Commission. The Council promoted economic development and resources of the State of Rhode Island. The Council was abolished in 1974 with the development of the Department of Economic Development. While the blocks themselves are not labeled as Rhode Island Development Council, images on many of the blocks can be found printed in various tourism and pamphlets published by the Council. It is, therefore, assumed that the blocks were all created by the Council during the course of their work. The photographer(s) or the individuals pictured in the images are not identified.
