Scope and Contents

The collection includes the papers and correspondence of Jencks with various notable Catholics as well as political and literary figures of the 20th century. The bulk of the materials are related to Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich (1923-1990), the Archbishop of Armagh and later Primate of all Ireland, and describe his work as a political activist for Northern Ireland.

Knowles, Anthony, and Danielson accounting ledgers

Scope and Contents The collection consists of six accounting ledgers of the various iterations of the publishing firm who owned the Providence Journal, spanning the years 1845-1885. Recorded in the ledgers are the financial transactions of the firm including wages and salaries of staff, bank withdrawals and deposits, as well as interest payments from stock investments such as the Block Island Steamboat Company and the New York Central Railroad. Rex Lebeau state identification card

Ship’s Papers of Lion (Ship) of Providence

Scope and Contents

This collection contains minimal documentation for the first and last voyages of the Lion, with better, though decidedly incomplete, documentation for the middle two voyages from Providence. Papers include correspondence, bills and receipts, gauges of oil, financial records including interest and deposits, crew lists and expenses, stockholders’ meeting minutes, and legal documents.

Aaron Lopez papers

Scope and Contents This collection contains correspondence, bills and notes, and shipping receipts including for various provisions such as dry goods, preserved beef, women’s shoes, spermaceti candles and oil, rum and pitch. Of particular interest is a letter of apology to Lopez from his son-in-law, Abraham Pereira Mendes, that notes, “I have so inhumanly assaulted and cruely treated [Lopez}…past follies…being so numerous and heinous…” which followed a family disagreement between Mendes and Lopez....
