Biographical / Historical
Mary Frazier was a bark built in Newbury, Massachusetts in 1832. The ship was purchased from Boston by New Bedford parties in 1842 and commenced whaling from that port. She made nine whaling voyages from New Bedford before being sold to Samuel Osborn, Jr. of Edgartown in 1876. Under Osborn's management, she made four more voyages before dragging anchor off the island of Flores in the Azores in 1889 which forced her abandonment. Note - this information contradicts the Ship Registers of New Bedford, but is confirmed by the registry certificate within this collection.
